So. Your wit is sharp, your scenes are rock-solid, your edits are crisp and your form is tight. Wanna take your improv to the next level, especially with world-building and game-play?
What if you could seemingly cut and bend time, use the ENTIRE stage, and react honestly but theatrically to anything that happens? What if you saw patterns and possibilities EVERYWHERE?
The Viewpoints, a system of rehearsal and performance techniques developed by Mary Overlie, Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, are a simple but profound way to explore using rhythms, tempos, and spatial relationships to create exciting, spectacular performances. In both long and short-form improv, the Viewpoints can be used for eccentric but authentic characters, spontaneous physical comedy, and wild, imaginative worlds!
This introductory course covers the basics of this incredible system and will get you on the road to dynamic, detailed and creative work in any show you do.
Important: ALL BODIES AND ABILITIES ARE WELCOME HERE! Like all Rise classes, this is an equal-access workshop. Every body and brain can engage in this play!
“The Viewpoints Book: A Practical Guide to Viewpoints and Composition” by Bogart and Landau (Theatre Communications Group) is highly recommended (but not required!) as a manual for the course.
